AMA Dragbike XXX Racing Fuel National Finals at South Georgia Motorsports Park
South Georgia Motorsports Park hosted the final 2009 AMA Dragbike series event on November 13-15.
Series champions were crowned, and records were smashed.
Headlining the event were the top fuel motorcycles. Korry Hogan qualified number 1 on Friday night with a tremendous blast of 5.889. On this run, Korry scraped the wall on the top end, and on Saturday he announced his withdrawal from the event and his immediate retirement from Top Fuel racing. Korry will be missed, and everyone wishes him a great future. Qualifying Number 2 was Larry “Spiderman” McBride, perennial champion and crowd favorite. The Spiderman ran a 5.956 at 222.02 on his first attempt on Saturday. On his second run, McBride suffered a massive blower explosion, but was back in action on Sunday. Completing the field was Geoff Pollard at 5.963 and Chris Hand at 6.19 at the fastest qualifying speed of 236.22. In round one, Chris Hand received the bye when Hogan withdrew. Hand ran a fine 6.14 at 244.12 (top speed of the meet). Geoff Pollard defeated Larry McBride when McBride’s ride developed a fuel leak and was shut off on the line.
