Marv's report:
South Georgia Motorsports Park welcomed Pro Mods and other racers for testing on February 12-13. Several racers brought out their new cars or rebuilt cars to get ready for the 2009 season. R. E. Smith brought his reconstructed ex-Scotty Cannon Stude out and ran times of 4.20, 4.10, and 4.09 in the eighth as one of the only cars to negotiate a tricky track surface on Thursday. Keith Baker ran some low 4 second passes on Thursday, but elected not to run on Friday. Tim Tindle brought his Shelby Mustang and with help from veteran Quain Stott, make pass after pass over the two day period. On Friday afternoon, Tindle had three eighth mile runs of 3.96, 3.95, and a 3.94 in a row, followed by a final full quarter mile blast of 5.99 at 238.30 (eighth mile 3.928 at 190.35). Joe Baker debuted Mike Ashley’s new 68 Camaro in fine style, making two three second eighth mile passes on Thursday. On Friday Baker ran a great 5.936 at 243.90 in the Quarter for low elapsed time and top speed of the two day test. This was a brand new car and utilized a Roots blower, not a screw. Jim Halsey brought out a new and super-trick Tim McAmis 68 Camaro. He never made it down the track on Thurdsay, but ran a great 3 second pass on Friday (The team requested that their exact times not be revealed). Steve Vick debuted a new Alan Pittman 68 Camaro. On Thursday he ran a best of 4.05, but by Friday he had stepped up to a very good 3.98, 3.97, and a final 3.94 at 187.18 for the best nitrous times of the week. Joey Martin brought out the Lowmad and broke the rear end on Thursday afternoon. After driving hundreds of miles to fix the rear, he returned Friday to post an outstanding 3.917 at only 165 as the burst panel blew near the top end. This is clearly a 3.80 machine ready to challenge the ADRL! Bruton Auxier brought his new car out on Friday and posted a best of 4.32 at 183. Jason Collins ran his IHRA Pro Stock to some great times, including a near track record 6.268 at 222.77 (4.06 177 eighth mile).
