Hemi Hurricane
The newest addition to the more than 100 vehicles now on display here at IMHoF is a beautifully-restored 1940 Willys coupe that won several NASCAR drag races in the mid-60's. That's right... NASCAR drag racing. The car was owned and driven by Lamar "Bunky" Bobo of Rome, GA, and Bunky and the Bobo family were kind enough to loan the car to us. It won the Top Competition Eliminator at Deland (FL) drag strip in 1967 and also won its class (A/Gas) in both 1966 and '67. Bobo and his son Tony spent three years and mega-bucks restoring this car, but the hard work paid off when it won "Best In Show" at the NHRA Vintage show in Bowling Green, KY this summer. It is a beautiful car that you need to come see.
