October 14, 2005 Cecil, GA - The best of the best lined up on Friday to determine the NHRA Division 2 Champions in five categories. Some twenty tracks sent their champs to do battle. In Super Pro, Leon Robertson of Nashville, TN took on David Scigliuto of Seminole, Florida in the final round. Robertson's 72 Chevelle used a 6.916 (6.90 dial) and an outstanding .004 reaction time to down Scigliuto's dragster’s 4.906 (4.88 dial). In Pro, Gainesville, Florida's Derek Putnam beat Albany, Georgia's Franky Bishop in a battle of Chevy Novas. Putnam ran a 7.319 on his 7.29 dial to down Bishop's 6.847 on his 6.84. In an all-Florida Sportsman battle, Kevin Roberts used a reaction time of .002 with a 7.752 (7.68 dial) to beat Joey Branhof in a nitrous assisted 1990 CRX 9.998 (9.95 dial). Roberts was a double winner also being selected as the Cool Radiators' Coolest Car Sportsman award for his immaculate 69 Camaro. In Super Pro Bike, two Florida racers squared off again. Dennis Stewart ran a 5.859 on his Kawasaki to down Roy Hagadorn's Suzuki’s 5.754. In High School action, Timothy Smith of Roanoke, Alabama, beat Brian Lawson of Bonaire, Georgia when Brian fouled.
Other awards handed out Friday night included the Cool Radiators' Coolest Car awards. Dale Wilson took the award for Super Pro entries with is immaculate front-engined dragster. The Pro Coolest car award went to Brian Massingale for his small block MOPAR- powered Volkswagen beetle. Best engineered went to Darren Stutts for his show quality 57 Chevy from Jax Raceway.
