South Georgia Motorsports Park Completes Bracket Series

by Marvin T. Smith

Cecil, Georgia October 8, 2005 - A large number of racers turned out for the final Summit ET Bracket Series points meet at South Georgia Motorsports Park. The race settled the 2005 track champions, and was also a double points race for the South Georgia Bracket Series contested at South Georgia Motorsports Park and U.S. 19 Dragway, Albany, Georgia. Finally, the Haulmark/CSR Dragway Series race for the Haulmark trailer and cash was also contested after the regular bracket event.

Qualifying set up the Dial In for Dollars round early in the evening. In Super Pro, Bruce Mouat ran a perfect 4.980 on his 4.98 dial to take home the bucks. In Pro, two cars ran on their dials and the winner was determined by the best reaction time. Hill Kenny took home the bucks.

In Super Pro action semifinals, Shannon Newell advanced when Bruce Mouat fouled, and Lisa Mouat ran a 5.271 (5.26 dial) to beat Jimmy Owen who ran a 5.061 on his 5.06 dial. Lisa has been killer on the tree in recent weeks. In the final, Lisa Mouat apparently rolled back out of the lights when she shallow staged turning on the red, giving the win to Shannon Newell who earned it with a 6.596 on his 6.59 dial. Larry McDuffie won the Summit ET Bracket Super Pro points championship for the season long points. McDuffie was forced to beat Ashley King in a special runoff round. McDuffie ran 6.885 on his 6.87 dial to beat King's foul and 6.775 on his 6.77 dial. Imagine the series being tied after a full season of racing!

Pro Action semis saw Gene Penland single and Earl Page take out Dyno Don Tipples' Duster. In the finals, Page ran a 7.779 breakout on his 7.78 dial, but won when Penland fouled. Brandon Wood is the 2005 Summit Et Pro series track points champion.

Although the Junior Dragster series had been completed at an earlier event, the Summit Et Junior Dragster champion for 2005 is Cory Cox. Last year's series champ Bobby Mouat finished in a tie for second.

Following the regular bracket race, there was a special event for the Haulmark/CSR Dragway series. In this special event, the top eight points winners in the Summit ET Series in both Pro and Super Pro had a special runoff. The Pro racers ran off to determine a Pro winner, and the Super Pro top eight did the same. In the final, the Super Pro winner faced the Pro Winner for a new Haulmark trailer and CSR awards. In Pro, number 3 in points Kenny Bevins faced off against number 5 Shane Parker. Parker fouled away an 8.07 on is 8.06 dial to lose to Bevins' 7.018 on his 7.03 dial. In Super Pro, number 5 man Glenn Newmans in his altered raced number 7 Anita Hogan in her dragster. In the double breakout run, Hogan's 5.529 (5.53 dial) beat Newmans' 5.481 (5.49 dial). The race for the trailer was another double break out spectacular. Super Pro winner Hogan ran 5.517 (5.52 dial) beat Pro winner Bevins' 6.978 (7.01 dial).

The final points totals for the South Georgia Series contested at SGMP and U.S. 19 tracks has not been announced pending points totals from U.S. 19. Look for an announcement later this week.

Next week, South Georgia Motorsports Park features the NHRA Division 2 Summit ET Bracket Finals. Racers from all over the Southeast will be racing for team and individual bragging rights.
