VANDERGRIFF READY FOR PARTY IN ATLANTA

Commerce, Ga. (May 3, 2006)- Bob Vandergriff Jr. is getting ready for a party at this weekend's Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway.
Vandergriff will have plenty of family and friends cheering him on as his UPS Top Fuel dragster gets to compete at his hometown track. Add to that his extended family from nearby UPS Corporate headquarters, Vandergriff is looking to provide an exciting weekend for all of his guests.
"This is obviously a big race for us. I’m excited about being in front of my friends, family and supporters. There is a lot of added pressure, but if we perform well, there is no better place to be than Atlanta Dragway, in front of my hometown sponsor and fans,” said Vandergriff."
Atlanta Dragway has been a home to Vandergriff in many ways. He served as Vice President of Atlanta Dragway and this job gave him his first taste of actually racing down the quarter mile. Now he returns here with his neighbors from UPS at his side to do battle on his home turf.
"We have made some steps towards performing better and more consistently in the past few races," Vandergriff said. "That should give us the opportunity to be very competitive this weekend. We are certainly headed in a direction where that could be a reality."
"We are all looking forward to bringing home a trophy, for everyone that has supported us this year," Vandergriff said. When that occurs, there will be quite a party in Atlanta.
RACE SCHEDULE:
Friday, May 5, professional qualifying sessions are at 3:30 and 6:30 p.m.
Saturday, May 6, pro qualifying continues at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Sunday, May 7, pre-race ceremonies are 10 a.m. Final elimination's begin at 11 a.m.
