VANDERGRIFF BESTED IN ROUND ONE
BRISTOL, Tenn., (April 30, 2006)- The UPS Top Fuel dragster was dismissed from Sundays elimination's at the O'Reilly Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway by first round opponent David Grubnic. Bob Vandergriff Jr. drilled Grubnic off the line in round one with a reaction time of .086 to the Australian's light of .105. The Alpharetta, Ga. based Vandergriff was slowed as he dropped a cylinder allowing Grubnic to reach the stripe first with an elapsed time of 4.566 seconds at 327.27 mph, shutting out the Jim Dupuy-tuned efforts of 4.612 seconds at 317.94 mph.
"We are still growing as a team and are still learning what the car wants in order to be happy," Vandergriff said. "It can be frustrating at times, but we are moving forward. We made our quickest run of the weekend, but it wasn't good enough."
The next stop on the 23-race NHRA POWERade Drag Racing series will be the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Ga., May 5-7. The nearby Atlanta area is home to both Vandergriff and UPS Corporate Headquarters.
