BAYTOWN, Texas (April 6, 2005) – Chip Ellis, aboard the G Squared/S&S Buell, heads to Houston Raceway Park in Baytown, Texas for the 18th running of the NHRA O’Reilly Spring Nationals.

At the season-opening Mac Tools Gatornationals three weeks ago in Gainesville, Fla., G Squared Motorsports experienced some uncharacteristic mechanical problems throughout the weekend and Ellis fell victim to a red-light start in the opening round of eliminations. But other than using the outing as a learning experience the team is not looking back.

"What happened in Gainesville stays in Gainesville," said Ellis, as he looked forward to this weekend's event. "While we don’t want or look for a repeat of the team's problems and my problems, we feel that we can stay on the same program we established for that race here at Houston.

"We tested between the two races and my crew chief Ken Johnson has got this bike straightened out. We're going to be ready for them at Houston."

G Squared team owners George Smith and George Bryce echoed the same philosophy.

Smith said, "The weekend (at Gainesville) was one of those weekends when stuff happens and now we look forward and just focus and prepare for Houston. I'm pleased with the progress we made at Gainesville Raceway. We have a good package and now we just need to put it together to get this G Squared S&S Buell down the track every round."

"At Gainesville we found out where we were as far as work required to make the motorcycle fast and reliable," reflected Bryce. "We used the time between races to test and uncovered and corrected some little gremlins that should make us a better bike at Houston. Chip feels a lot more confident going into Houston and the team as a whole feels more prepared."

SCHEDULE: With Smith, Bryce and Ken Johnson calling the tuning shots, qualifying for Ellis and the G Squared S&S Buell begins with two sessions on Friday, scheduled for 2:30 and 6:30 p.m., and concludes with two additional sessions on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Ellis begins his quest for the Pro Stock Bike title on Sunday with eliminations for all classes beginning at 11 a.m. All times are local Houston time (CT) and subject to change at anytime.
