Kurt Johnson completed his best qualifying effort of the young NHRA season on Saturday, slotting his ACDelco Cobalt fifth for Sunday’s final eliminations of the O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals. Johnson's run of record at Houston Raceway Park came on Friday night, when he tripped the quarter-mile clocks in 6.706-seconds with a top speed of 205.54 mph.

"After a strong start on Friday, our ACDelco Cobalt made decent runs today, but just didn't seem to go anywhere. We should be able to run a 6.69 without a problem, but we're about five hundredths off. Looking at the information we have at our disposal, I think we can make some adjustments for tomorrow and get back at least three of them, but we won’t be happy until we get all five.

"We'll go over our notes, go back to what works and get after it. We know what the track needs, as well as what the car and the motor needs. The key is putting it all together. We’ll be on it tomorrow."
