Testing At South Georgia Motorsports Park
by Marvin T. Smith
South Georgia Motorsports Park held a pre-Southern Nationals test session on Monday. Highlights include a nice 4.22 169 by Johnny Pilcher. Pilcher's run was the first out on the track. Running only one stage of nitrous in his Sonny Leonard hemi chevy, he ran the 4.22 after a small nitrous fire. The team reported that the traction was unreal and the newly ground track was "smooth as silk." Subsequent runs by Pilcher failed to get down the track as the afternoon grew hotter.
Several Pro Stock motorcycle teams made test runs. In 85 degree heat at 4:00 PM with a corrected altitude of 2140 feet, Chip Ellis, riding the S&S Beull, ripped off an outstanding 7.151 at 189.26. He appears ready for Atlanta.
Testing to continue Tuesday and Wednesday.
