Whisnant, Stanfield and PiranaZ team up for 2005

STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. – Mark and Gina Whisnant, owners of PiranaZ Racewear, are proud to announce that Greg Stanfield will carry the PiranaZ colors on his Chevy Cavalier for the 2005 NHRA POWERade drag racing season.

Whisnant and Stanfield will combine their forces to makeup a two car NHRA Pro Stock team. With both cars flying the PiranaZ colors. Stanfield, of Bossier City, LA, will be the primary team car, and will run the full 23 event schedule. Whisnant, of Stockbridge, GA will cut back his efforts in 2005 to 14 races to concentrate on building the retail division of PiranaZ Racewear.

“As a company we are proud to have Greg represent PiranaZ,” said Whisnant. “I have known Greg since we raced against each other in the Pro Stock Trucks, and know first hand he is a top caliber racer. As a driver he is one of the best. He has proven his ability to win with four Super Stock Championships. I know that it is just a matter of time before he wins his first Pro Stock race, and I want PiranaZ there with him when he does.

“The Stanfield’s have a young operation, and they have achieved real success in a short amount of time. Combined with their continued backing from Bart Price and his family, I am sure that this season he will be running for the Pro Stock championship with PiranaZ on the side of his Cavalier.

“To say we struggled last season is an understatement. After a lot of debating, my Dad (former Pro Stock racer Reid Whisnant) and I decided to cut back our schedule until we can get the PiranaZ / RW Performance team back to a point where we can be competitive.

“My wife Gina and I bought the PiranaZ Racewear Company last year. We have had plans in place to take the brand to other retail markets, so the timing is right to cut back our race schedule to 14 races. “

In the first part of the 2004, Greg Stanfield took a short hiatus from Pro Stock racing. He used his time off to concentrate on his engine building business, and finding the power to be competitive in the Pro Stock class.

Last season Stanfield competed at only four NHRA POWERade events: Indianapolis, Chicago 2, Dallas and Vegas 2. He qualified at all four events. In Chicago he sent notice to the rest of the Pro Stock class that he was back with a vengeance when he ran an amazing 6.675 / 207.15 mph.

“Hey, I am just thankful to be out here racing,” said Stanfield. “I am excited about driving the PiranaZ Chevrolet this season. I have known the Whisnant’s for quite a while, and I know we are on the same page. They want to race and win as badly as we do. This season PiranaZ Racewear is going to help us get to the racetrack, and I hope in turn we can help them sell a lot of t-shirts.”

The PiranaZ team will begin their 2005 efforts next weekend at the Super Bowl Warm-Up in Houston, TX.
