BIG 'FAST FRIDAY' CROWD WATCHES THREE WINNERS EMERGE

BANKS CROSSING, GA Despite temperatures and humidity in the 90's, the Year One Fast Friday fans came out in droves, and were rewarded with some equally heated drag racing action.
In the Year One Power Hour contest, Ken Pepin of Alpharetta ran the quarter-mile in 12.551 seconds at 115.39 MPH to take home two Year One $50 Gift Certificate Vouchers. Flowery Branch racer Jeremy Wade earned the third $50 voucher for the Best Reaction Time of the 9-10 PM competition for strictly street-legal cars and pickup trucks. Wade cut a perfect "triple zero" light (.000) at the Christmas Tree before entering the Hayes Sport Compact Challenge at 11PM.
In street-legal Sport Compact Challenge action, two evenly matched racers, Peter Heu of Commerce and Maysville's Terry Turpin lined up for the "Fast Four" finale. Heu picked up the champion's trophy in what was arguably the best drag race of the evening, besting Turpin by less than a car length in a 12.229 second, 107.86 mph blast down the dragstrip in his nitrous-enhanced 1992 Honda Civic. Turpin remains the Hayes Sport Compact Challenge season points leader, with Heu in a 4-way tie for second place.
The next Year One Fast Friday program is scheduled for Friday, July 30th, and will feature another round of the Hayes Sport Compact Challenge in addition to the Year One Power Hour. Gates will open at 6:00 PM for both racers and spectators, with racing action beginning at 6:45 and the Hayes Sport Compact Challenge starting at 11 PM.
